The chess piece belt colors were decided based on proximity to the “King”. The chess piece starting positions are King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook, and then Pawn in the front row. This corresponds to jujitsu belt ranking as Red, Black, Brown, Purple, Blue, and White, respectively. If you prefer the design belt color to correspond to the modern chess point value system of King=infinite, Queen=9, Rook=5, Bishop=3, Knight=3, and Pawn=1, you may request the color variation for the given chess piece in the Special Instructions box.
